Electron microscopy specialist to exhibit at FILTECH 2024
Thermo Fisher Scientific is exhibiting at filtration trade show FILTECH 2024 held from 12-14 November, at the Koelnmesse Halls in Cologne, Germany. Leaders and technical experts from Thermo Fisher will be present to offer expertise in electron microscopy and discuss how this technique provides an advanced solution, optimising material analysis for filtration.
FILTECH, the largest global trade show for the filtration industry, invites exhibitors to showcase innovative solutions that are “driving progress and excellence”, enhancing filtration and separation technology — vital for tackling key challenges such as air pollution and improving public health. In line with this focus, Thermo Fisher will spotlight the Phenom Desktop SEM with live demonstrations on the show floor.
The compact Phenom Desktop SEM is a high-resolution microscope that can generate nanometre-resolution images of nonwoven materials, such as meltdown synthetic fibres used in face mask filters. The instrument combines powerful imaging capabilities with the robust-nature, flexibility and integration of “bigger” SEMs. This makes the solution beneficial in a variety of industrial settings, including quality control, where space and time is limited. It is easy to operate, assuring that users of all levels of expertise can use the Phenom to their full advantage, without the need for specialised training.
The Phenom’s abilities are further boosted by its integrated automated image mapping and analysis software, Thermo Scientific FibreMetric. In filtration applications, this software enables measurements of nanofibers and pore diameters automatically, generating statistical data and frequency diagrams. This allows users to obtain complete sample information – all in one single session.
When in need of a higher resolution or more flexibility, Thermo Fisher’s range of floor-model instruments are the optimal choice. Experts will be on site to discuss Thermo Fisher’s high-resolution and versatile models, including the recently launched Apreo ChemiSEM, the Axia ChemiSEM and the Quattro ESEM. Besides increased resolution, these models offer unmatched analytical capabilities for in-depth investigations of materials or root cause analysis.
The Axia ChemiSEM is a highly flexible, easy to use SEM. Its integrated SmartAlign technology allows the user to benefit from alignment-free operations, alongside newly developed automatic functions and instantaneous quantitative chemical analysis via energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS).
The Quattro ESEM is also a highly flexible microscope, but for so-called in situ dynamic experiments. Here, the microscope is optimized for studying materials in a range of environmental conditions such as humidity, heat, cold ore pressure changes. Additionally, it features a field emission gun (FEG) for excellent image resolution and three vacuum modes to accommodate (almost) any sample.
Integrating EDS and electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) for identifying the orientation of crystals, the newly launched Apreo ChemiSEM is a cutting-edge microscope offering high-performance imaging, whilst simplifying material science research and analysis. With advanced software features (Smart Frame Integration, improved autofocus and autostigmation functions) it eases, simplifies and accelerates the workflow, thereby providing unparalleled insights for both expert and first-time users.
“Exhibiting at FILTECH allows us to showcase our user-friendly advanced solutions for the filtration industry’s evolving demands in research, development and quality control,” explained Britta Siefer, account manager at Thermo Fisher.
“Our wide-range of SEMs, including both, compact desktop models and their larger floor standing counterparts, reflect our commitment to support industry needs with future-proof solutions that meet increasingly complex analysis requirements necessary for improved understanding of cutting-edge solutions. From entry-level to experienced users, our comprehensive portfolio empowers organisations to drive innovation across the filtration industry.”
