WEG UK hosts Malaysian Government delegation

Visit strengthens UK–Malaysia industrial ties as part of global leadership programme

In May 2025, industrial equipment manufacturer, WEG UK hosted a delegation of 25 senior officials from the Malaysian Government as part of a global leadership programme led by Putra Business School and coordinated by Aston Business School. The visit was part of an international initiative to engage with leading industrial organisations and explore best practices in innovation, sustainability and strategic operations.

The delegation’s visit to WEG UK formed part of a broader initiative to facilitate high-level engagement between Malaysian government officials and leading international businesses. As influential figures in Malaysian public administration, the delegates participated in the global leadership programme to exchange insights on international best practices in business, industrial strategy and innovation-led development.

The objective of the industrial visit was fourfold: to engage directly with successful global enterprises, examine effective models of international business operations, share perspectives on strategic decision-making and build stronger cross-cultural collaboration frameworks. WEG’s reputation for innovation, sustainable practices and global reach positioned it as an ideal host within this programme.

The visit included a guided tour of WEG’s UK facilities in Redditch, followed by a presentation and Q&A session with senior WEG leaders. Discussions focused on WEG’s approach to sustainability, global expansion strategies and its technological leadership in motors, drives and automation.

“Malaysia is an important player in the Southeast Asian region and a growing hub for industrial and economic development,” said Gustavo da Silva, managing director at WEG UK. “The visit provided a platform for meaningful exchange, allowing us to share insights into our operations and explore shared perspectives on the future of global industry and sustainability.”

The visit also represented a strategic opportunity for WEG to engage with key stakeholders from Malaysia and strengthen connections that contribute to wider UK–Malaysia trade and industrial cooperation. As one of Southeast Asia’s most dynamic economies, Malaysia plays a crucial role in regional supply chains, manufacturing innovation and infrastructure development. Strengthening business relationships between the UK and Malaysia supports not only bilateral trade but also the advancement of sustainable industrial practices on a global scale.

Conversations during the visit also touched on areas of mutual interest, such as component procurement and market development, offering potential avenues for continued dialogue and knowledge sharing. These conversations highlighted the value of cross-border engagement in identifying new opportunities and building shared understanding in areas critical to industrial growth.

With operations in over 135 countries and manufacturing facilities in 15, WEG continues to be recognised as a global leader in industrial motor and drive technologies. The company delivers advanced solutions across sectors including energy, water, oil and gas, mining and manufacturing — all of which align closely with Malaysia’s national development priorities.

The engagement reflects WEG’s ongoing commitment to building meaningful international partnerships that support mutual growth, technological innovation and the global exchange of expertise. As global industry continues to evolve, such collaborations remain essential to advancing sustainable practices and driving long-term resilience across sectors.
