Circular emissions company earns top ten sustainability list spot

Emissions treatment specialist Krajete has been named one of the top ten winners in the TechRound Sustainability60 2025 awards. Recognised for its expertise in biomethanation and regenerative nitrogen oxide (NOX) removal technology, Krajete secured the eighth position for its innovative solutions and its broader mission of raising awareness about air quality and environmental responsibility.

TechRound, a leading UK business and start-up, launched the Sustainability60 to spotlight companies driving sustainability through innovation. The initiative celebrates startups tackling some of the world’s most pressing environmental challenges, many of which were once considered unsolvable.

“I started Krajete in 2011 focusing on biomethanation, using a biological method to convert carbon dioxide to methane feedstocks. Since then, we’ve expanded our expertise to include emissions gas analysis and regenerative nitrogen oxide (NOX) removal using zeolite filter technology. In this short time, we’ve grown to collaborate with major industry leaders such as BHP, SkyDiamond and Audi.” said Dr Alexander Krajete, founder and CEO of Krajete.

Inspired by nature, Krajete’s gas purification process uses zeolites – microporous crystalline aluminosilicate materials known for their high surface area, thermal stability and selective adsorption properties. These attributes make them highly effective at capturing NOX emissions.

The process consists of two key stages: adsorption, where a zeolite filter weakly binds NOX particles, significantly reducing pollutant concentration in emitted gases; followed by desorption and conversion, where the captured NOX is released and transformed into valuable by-products such as nitric acid, which can be used in fertilisers.

For example, when integrated into the bypass mode of a vehicle, Krajete’s technology can reduce NOX emissions by up to 98 per cent, achieving output levels as low as one ppm.

“This is our first time entering the TechRound Sustainability60 competition. I hope that it will bring more attention to circular solutions, like NOX regeneration, that can protect the environment while bringing financial benefits for companies that adopt them,” Dr Krajete added.

“As a company with just five employees, this recognition highlights the impact of our emissions treatment technology and the importance of tackling nitrogen oxide pollution, which poses a major health and environmental challenge. We are committed to helping support industries transform their gas emissions into value and achieve their emissions targets,” concluded Dr Krajete.
