Jimmy Green Stocks cromox Stainless Steel Anchor Chains

cromox UK Ltd. is offering premium stainless steel anchor chains through partner Jimmy Green Marine, a renowned chandler.

Inaugurated last year (2024), cromox UK is a wholly owned subsidiary of Germany’s Ketten Wälder GmbH. Founded in 1948, Ketten Wälder set-up cromox, a premium stainless steel brand, approximately 17 years ago. The product line, which also includes stainless steel lifting equipment, is already established in the European marine sector and other global nautical hotbeds.

cromox is partnering with Jimmy Green Marine, strategically located on Devon’s south coast, to supply Grade 60 stainless steel anchor chains, in addition to shackles and swivels, to yacht and boat owners. End customers are likely to be sourcing premium anchor chains for larger vessels in the 40-foot-plus range, where typical cruises will create a necessity for durable, longer-life equipment.

Chris Wiggins, managing director at Cromox UK, said: “With healthy stock in the UK’s Midlands and Jimmy Green’s nautical chandlery further south, we are well positioned to deliver anchor chains, shackles, and swivels nationwide. With a physical store, and a thriving ecommerce platform, they are perfect strategic partners to support our launch into the market and chart a course to successful delivery of product lines that are already popular among boat owners in Europe and globally.”

James Green, director at Jimmy Green Marine, said: “Galvanised Grade 30 or 40 chains are adequate for many of our customers, but corrosion will eventually force their replacement. There is a higher-end market where longevity and reliability are more important, especially when people are looking to sail into European waters and even live aboard for long periods of time. Oxidisation stains contaminate all surrounding surfaces. Stainless steel chain therefore provides the opportunity to keep deck equipment and the chain locker clean and shiny.”

Jimmy Green specialises in custom ropes and rigging, safety supplies, and sailing equipment. The cromox stainless steel range has been added to a catalogue that includes other mooring, anchoring, and rigging products, including cromox’s NAUTIC shackle, which connects two components together, such as an anchor to its chain. Notably, Jimmy Green is the only approved NAUTIC supplier in the UK.

The proven quality of cromox products has made it one of the leading manufacturers of stainless steel anchor chains and nautical accessories. The durability of the range is acknowledged by accredited testing laboratories and lauded at the point of use by experienced leisure and professional boaters. As with the NAUTIC line, the new products are suitable for yachts, catamarans, and sailing ships, as well as for use in the industrial maritime sector.

At the centre of the cromox offering are its anchor chains, which have been preferred over traditional ropes for many years, principally because the weight of the anchor chain, unlike that of rope, increases the anchor’s holding force on the ground. Wiggins explained that, even in rough seas and strong winds, the anchoring position is optimally maintained. It means the anchor chain is one of the most important safety items on board a vessel — and the more corrosion proof the better.

Green added: “Our existing Ultra Marine range of anchors is just one example of a product we stock that will be immediately complemented by the cromox chain. We also stock a variety of other products that have stainless [steel] options, contributing to a wider offering for the more affluent yacht or boat owner. Business is healthy and we look forward to another busy period as New Year gathers pace — and another season approaches.”

Jimmy Green already stocks standard lengths of cromox stainless steel anchor chain; bespoke lengths can be provided upon request. Chains should be regularly inspected and maintained to the manufacturer’s instructions.

cromox UK, meanwhile, continues to increase its stock of hooks, shackles, links, and weld-on lifting points, that can be used by the marine industry.
