~ DC motor expert appoints new managing director along with several other role changes ~
Expert in small DC motors and the UK and Ireland’s official supplier of FAULHABER motors, Electro Mechanical Systems (EMS), has made several changes to its management team. With the retirement of former managing director Stewart Goulding, Mike Davies has been appointed as the new managing director, transitioning from his previous role as manufacturing director. Several other internal appointments have also been made.
With nearly 30 years at EMS, Davies has spent much of this time overseeing the company’s advanced manufacturing facility in Poole, Dorset. The facility, equipped with over 30 CNC machines and a dedicated gear-cutting section for producing spur, helical and worm gears, serves as the core operational hub and is home to the majority of EMS’s workforce.
In addition to supplying a wide selection of DC brushed and brushless motors, electric linear actuators and telescopic columns for diverse applications, EMS also specialises in the custom manufacture of gearbox solutions — a core component of its strategic portfolio. As managing director, Davies will maintain his oversight of shop floor operations, while focusing on advancing progress and efficiency across all areas of EMS’s offerings.
Former managing director Stewart Goulding also held the role of sales and marketing director at EMS. Following his departure, sales manager Dave Walsha has been promoted to this position and will now oversee all sales and marketing activities for the company. As part of this role, Walsha will work closely with EMS’s network of drives system partners, for many of which it is the sole UK and Ireland distributor. This includes the FAULHABER Group, as well as Bühler Motor, Nidec and Ewellix.
Walsha will be responsible for serving key industries, including medical devices, aerospace, defence and military, by providing drive solutions tailored to their specific needs. He will also support the sale of custom manufacturing systems as required. Elsewhere in the management team, operations director John Sellings and finance director Shaun Cole will continue in their roles.
“In his time at EMS, Stewart helped make some great strides for our company,” said Davies. “From the opening of our modernised 40,000 square foot factory in 2020 to supporting the growing network of partners we serve, his impact on the company has set a strong foundation for our future growth. As I step into this role, I’m committed to building on this legacy by strengthening our operational efficiency, expanding our technical capabilities and supporting our talented team as we continue to deliver cutting-edge solutions for our customers.”
Walsha echoes Davies’s sentiments, saying: “In this new role, I will continue strengthening relationships with our industry partners. My focus will be on delivering tailored drive solutions that meet the specific needs of our clients and supporting the company’s ongoing growth and development.”
