Kidlington-based adhesives supplier Intertronics cycled more than 900 miles between July 15 and 18 to raise money for homelessness charity Emmaus Oxford. Smashing its initial 500-mile target by day two, the company extended its distance with its sights on Töging am Inn, near Munich. Following 33 hours of cycling on two stationary bikes, the event has raised more than £5,000 for Emmaus Oxford, which will help the charity build a new facility. Joined by suppliers, former colleagues, and friends, the Intertronics team pedalled away on two stationary bikes for four days straight to cover the distance from Kidlington to Erding in honour of a great local cause. Intertronics plotted a real life route for the virtual event,  highlighting milestones and the offices of suppliers Relyon Plasma, ViscoTec, and Dymax, on the way.

Prizes were given for the most funds raised (Adrian Riley), most timeslots done or recruited for (Teresa Arnaud), longest distance cycled (James Heydon), fastest sprinter (Ben Swanson), and best cycling outfit (Leila White and Kezia Batten).

Emmaus Oxford provides active support to 28 formerly homeless people. The charity provides a real, alternative solution to homelessness that works; providing people with a home for as long as they need it. It offers meaningful work opportunities in social enterprises to help formerly homeless people gain valuable experience, new skills, and a route into independence.

“We are extremely grateful for Intertronics’ support,” said Eddie Blaze, CEO at Emmaus Oxford. “The money raised will contribute to the building of our ‘move-on’ houses which will become a vital step for companions as they move towards mainstream living, as well as enabling us to increase the number of formerly homeless people we are able to support.”

“Amazingly, we reached our initial end-goal of Wiesbaden, the HQ of supplier Dymax, in just two days,” said Ben Swanson, Joint Managing Director of Intertronics. “We extended our target not once, but twice. First, with our team cycling onward from Wiesbaden to Bayern, and then plucky cyclists from Emmaus Oxford added an extra 40 miles to our total to take us on a victory lap. We like to think we reached Therme Erding, a fabulous spa complex and fitting end for a 915-mile cycle.

“This event aligns closely with our company values,” added Swanson “We are proud to support our local community, especially in collaboration with customers, friends, and suppliers. It was a brilliant event that saw the team pull together, get competitive, and have fun all in aid of a good cause. We’re very grateful to Dymax for their generosity and support, which helped to get this event off the ground and made a significant dent in our £5,000 aspiration.”

To encourage its team to be active in the local community, all employees at Intertronics are offered the opportunity to take an extra day of paid holiday to do something charitable. This collaborative initiative helped employees to use their charity time to achieve a shared goal.
