Scottish greentech trailblazer Katrick Technologies was invited to 10 Downing Street to attend a celebration of Scottish culture on 24 January, 2024. The reception, organised by Deputy Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Oliver Dowden, brought together influential figures and experts from a range of Scottish industries to honour their achievements ahead of Burns Night.
Glasgow-based renewable energy company Katrick Technologies has been attracting widespread attention for its unique innovations. In recognition of the company’s contributions, CEO Vijay Madlani was recently invited to the event at 10 Downing Street. The annual event, which takes place around Burns Night, celebrates Scotland’s cultural heritage and its contribution to the fabric of the UK.
Katrick Technologies is a proudly Scottish-based company, and its journey so far reflects this. Having developed a unique wind power generation technology that addresses some of the limitations of traditional wind turbines, the company originated in Glasgow at the University of Strathclyde. It’s here that founder and CTO Karthik Velayutham first explored the concept vibrational technology, creating the model that would eventually become the core of Katrick Technologies’ products. The company was subsequently supported by the university’s entrepreneurship programme and was based at its incubator before growing and expanding into its current premises in the Glasgow Innovation District. It has since gone from strength to strength in the development of its technology and the growth of its team and has developed strong working relationships with other Scottish companies such as Glasgow and Edinburgh airports.
“Scottish culture and achievement are integral to the UK,” said Vijay Madlani, CEO of Katrick Technologies. “For Katrick Technologies to be invited to attend such a prestigious event that showcases Scotland’s national contributions, was a fantastic opportunity and a real honour. Our Scottish roots as a company are such a fundamental part of our identity. It’s a great testament not only to Katrick Technologies but to the potential of our innovations that we were invited to represent Scotland alongside so many important attendees.”
Katrick Technologies has been attracting attention both in Scotland and internationally for its groundbreaking Wind Panels — a wind power generation system that produces power through oscillations rather than the traditional rotary motion of turbines. The unique design allows the panels to capture winds at ground-level far better than wind turbines, meaning that they can be placed in a variety of locations including built up areas. The technology is currently in development but shows significant potential as a new addition to the renewable energy mix.
